5 Quick Book Reviews : July 2013 Twitterature

Summer time should be the time for lots of book reading, but that has not been the case for me. I'm not complaining though. We've been otherwise occupied :)

Still, here's a glimpse of what I've been reading the past two months. I hope you find something you might enjoy!

A Biblical Home Education: Building Your Homeschool on the Foundation of God's Word by Ruth Beechick

If you want your children to have a biblical worldview, you must be intentional in how you teach them. For homeschooling from primary through high school. Theoretical but also very practical. #anotherBeechickclassic #amustreadforhomeschoolers #excelente

Large Family Logistics: The Art & Science of Managing the Large Family by Kim Brenneman

If you are looking for a book on how to be a better homemaker, this is it, hands down. Don't buy anything else. I call it my homemaking bible. Practical tips, step-by-step procedures, & tons of organizational help. #notjustforlargefamilies #mygo-tohomemakingresource

Of Mice & Men by John Steinbeck

A fast read that breaks my heart every.single.time, probably more so as a mom. Because we all root for the underdog. #classic #must-read #poorLennie

Anything: The Prayer That Unlocked My God & My Soul by Jennie Allen

The inspiration behind my series on entitlement. My impetus to attempt to "deny self, take up my cross, and follow" Jesus every second of every day. Easy to read yet powerful stuff. #lifechanging #findyourAnything

Dreaming of the Bones by Deborah Crombie

#5 in the Duncan Kinkaid/Gemma Jones series. By far Crombie's best work. Cerebral, poetic, simply amazing. #youcan'tescapeyourpast

    1. Gabby, I am actually borrowing LFL from a friend, but I am going to buy the book it's that good. I don't buy very many books either. I'm kind of a literary snob.

But my advice is not to read it until you have a good chunk of time to devote to it because you will not be able to put it down. Or you can do like Brenneman suggests and read what you need to in the moment :)

  4. I have a few books by Ruth Beechick, although I haven't read through them all yet. They were given to me the begining of this year. However, I enjoyed the two that I have finished. She tips are so great that all you really need is time, paper and pencil.

Large Family Logistics got me through my last two pregnancies, I'd recommend it hands down.

Thanks for sharing. Visiting from Titus 2 Tuesdays.

    1. You're right about the Beechick books, Tati. I usually jot down lots of ideas while reading through them. So practical! That's what I want though when I'm reading non-fiction--something I can use!

LFL is the book I'm going to buy all my new mommy friends!

      Thanks for visiting!

  6. I so enjoyed skimming through your blog & checking out what you've been reading! I work w/ many classics since I'm a high school English teacher but also love mysteries. I've read most of Deborah Crombie's Gemma/Duncan series. I have her 2 most recent waiting for me on Kindle. (Have you ever read Julie Spencer-Fleming? You might like her also.) I often review Christian fiction on my blog. The Twitter-type reviews are great. I'd like to join in with this meme some week. So glad I stopped in to visit from Doorkeeper. Blessings!

  7. Thank you, Renee. I have not read Julie Spencer-Fleming, but I will look for some of her books. I love mysteries but nothing raunchy. That's why I like Crombie; she's pretty mild but so good.

I don't know what Doorkeeper is. Could you shed some light on that please?

    Thanks!

    1. Resh, I think Of Mice & Men is nice introduction to Steinbeck, but I really love The Black Pearl, too. Check it out if you get a chance.
