"Blog at Home Mom: Balancing Blogging & Motherhood" Review & Giveaway

How can I do this writing gig and be an intentional mother?

Is it possible to do both well, or will something inevitably suffer as I try to juggle both?

Christin Slade's new e-book "Blog at Home Mom: Balancing Blogging and Motherhood" seeks to answer these questions, pertinent to any mommy blogger. With practical hands-on suggestions, she offers encouragement for moms who may feel guilty trying to pursue their passion as writers.

While Christin specifically writes for the Christian mom and writer, her message is pertinent to any woman striving to achieve her dream in the midst of all the responsibilities she's been called to.
"You cannot blog with integrity if you don't have your priorities in order. Your blogging is your testimony. Without Christ at the center, it lacks power and will therefore lack reach & transformation" (24).
 When I heard about Christin's new e-book, I immediately requested a review copy in large part because of my own struggle to find the right balance as a blogger and a mommy.

While there's no magic formula for creating the perfect balance, Christin presents a clear step-by-step guide for creating and achieving your goals as a blogger and a mom.
Balance has always been a struggle for me. I have been through seasons when I stopped writing altogether because I just didn't have time to commit to all that blogging entails. And there have been times when I've abandoned my children to Barney just so I could finish a post.

But as I read Christin's e-book, I felt a sense of excitement that maybe it is possible to be both an intentional mom and a writer: I just need to get organized.

"Blog at Home Mom" offers the tools and resources to help me get my act together by:
  • First, aiming high with big goals for myself as a blogger and a mom;
  • Then, devising a plan that works and is manageable;
  • Organizing my days & prioritizing my tasks;
  • Creating & sticking to a schedule;
  • Making the most of my time; and,
  • Throughout, caring for my marriage & spiritual walk.

The 46-page e-book "Blog at Home Mom" is broken down into 8 easy-to-read chapters, including an amazingly useful foreword by Crystal Payne of Money-Saving Mom and 2 pages of resources including a recommended reading list.
"God planted our passions so we could help others and have a sense of delightful satisfaction and fulfillment in pursuing them. Not fulfillment of the flesh; but fulfillment of the soul" (10).
We have been given certain talents from God that we are called to pursue, not for our own glory, but for the glory of our Maker. And when we use our gifts in the right way--in balance--we become better mothers. We find the right balance, and God is glorified.

What I Love About "Blog at Home Mom"

  • The testimonies & useful suggestions from other successful mommy bloggers
  • Christin's heart for the Lord & her constant reminder to pursue God's will
  • How when I finished reading the e-book, I wasn't overwhelmed by all I need to do but actually excited & eager to get to work!

  1. Thanks for hosting this giveaway Keri! My biggest struggle as a mom and blogger is definitely prioritizing and scheduling! I've been writing from home for four years now and still find it tricky at times.

    1. I agree, Del. Getting my priorities right is something I am constantly working on. Some days I'm all about my kids, others my blog, and then I neglect my sweet husband. It's something I have to be very intentional about.

  2. This sounds like just what I need! I'd love to write more consistently, but it's always flood or drought with my writing. When the weeks get busy or I just get too tired, blogging goes by the wayside. Generally, I think that's how it should be. But it would love to be able to find a way to be more consistent in those times if possible!

    1. I am the same way! Some weeks I have nothing to say, and I'm silent. Other weeks I can 't shut up! But, for me, I want to be more consistent for my readers, so they will know they can expect something from me on a regular basis. It's a constant struggle though.

    1. It's a great book. I would not hold a giveaway for something I didn't support 100%. I couldn't.

    1. I understand completely. There are days that I've worked so hard on my blog and had zero comments, and I just want to quit.

      Thanks for the nomination! I will check it out, sweet friend!

  5. Definitely prioritizing and self-control! My husband and I made a rule that there would be no blogging while the kids are awake. But sometimes I can't help myself if an idea pops in my head and I need to "write" it down.

    1. That is a great rule! In Christin's e-book, she offers some good tips for what to do about those impromptu ideas.

  6. I'm not a mum (mom! there goes my Australian-ness) yet, but a nanny and big sister and teacher, so there's a similar balance that has to be sought with blogging for me! I want to do both well, not compromising on the effort and energy I put into either, because big people and small people are special - whether I'm connecting with them online or in real life.

    1. So true, Rachael. I think it's hard to maintain a good balance without compromising one way or the other. Sometimes my children need me more and blogging has to take the back burner for a while, but then when the kids are good, I can invest more of me into the blog. Balance is key!

  7. I find that if I'm keeping up with my blog, I'm falling behind at home; and when I'm keeping on top of things at home, I'm falling behind on my blog! I want to know how to "do it all!" :)

    1. Oh, I want the secrets too! I can never get it all done! If someone would just write THAT e-book or create a pill, chocolate-flavored please :)

  8. Ha ha! That is so true -- if one of us would write that e-book, we would soon be rich! :)

    I am definitely hoping to win this giveaway though to help me figure out the best way to schedule my blogging time! fingers crossed . . .
