Top 10 Reasons Why I Love My Husband & a New Series

I have written a lot of posts on here about mothering but next to none about "wifering" {my new word}. Definition: The art of nurturing one's husband. It's a topic I don't feel quite comfortable discussing at length because of the intimate relationship between a husband and wife; yet, I believe that if we are to submit to and respect our husbands as Paul instructs in Ephesians 5, then we must know how.

My plan over the course of the next few weeks is to present a series of posts on ways to love and nurture our spouses according to God's Word. I hope you will join me and offer your own wisdom on the topic. If anything, please pray for me.

To kick off this series, I wanted to enumerate the many reasons why I love my husband, Daniel Boone Tidwell {yes, that's his name, and, yes, he's related to the Daniel Boone}.

Here's why my husband is so special:

(1) His generous heart. If someone is in need--whether a teenager going on a mission trip or a homeless person on the exit ramp--my husband is willing to help them out. We aren't rich by any means but we are blessed, and Daniel looks for opportunities to share what God has entrusted to us with others. While I tend to be a tad stingy, he amazes me continually with his willingness to give without question.

(2) But also his frugality. Before I met my husband, I was somewhat of a spendthrift. I would make spontaneous purchases on anything that I wanted. Daniel is the opposite. He hates to spend money on himself and will completely wear out a pair of blue jeans before getting another pair. I ironed on three different patches in his last pair of jeans before he finally relented and let me buy him a new pair. Daniel has taught me the importance of assessing my needs versus wants, and now I think long and hard before I let go of a dime. I have also perfected the fine art of couponing and bargain shopping in an effort to make our hard-earned money go a lot further.

(3) He gets me.
Daniel knows my shortcomings and my pet peeves. He knows not to talk to me in the morning when I first wake up; he knows I must have a cup of coffee first. He knows that I am easily frustrated when things don't according to plan. He knows that I don't particularly like social situations. And, in spite of my faults, my husband doesn't hold them against me. Instead, he has learned to stay out of my way before that first cup of coffee, to be flexible with his plans, and to limit our social engagements.

(4) His sense of humor. Daniel is a quintessential goofball. To me, his jokes are pretty cheesy, very much on par with Airplane!. Still, he knows how to have a good time and is the "fun" parent while I'm the serious stick in the mud. He makes me laugh at exactly the moment when I most need a chuckle, and I'm thankful for his silliness!

(5) His loyalty to family {his, mine, & ours}. Anytime there is a birthday or other special occasion my husband is there with me. He doesn't complain about not having time or not wanting to go, but he goes to show his family and mine how much he loves them. Also, if anyone needs help with a project, Daniel is the first to jump in and lend a hand.

(6) His devotion to his girls. There isn't a man alive that holds a candle to "Daddy" in our daughters' eyes. Daniel twirls and tosses, wrestles and "curls" his little girls, causing many to wonder whether he might be too rough, but the girls love it. He would hang the moon for them. Seeing his dedication to and love for our children makes me appreciate him even more.

(7) He's a hard worker. Whether at his job, at home, church, or wherever, my husband does his best at whatever he is involved in. He takes such great pride in his work that he is easily frustrated by people who don't care like he does.

(8) How he encourages me. I'm not one to take chances; Daniel is. If I have an idea to do something, I usually won't pursue it unless I have his approval and encouragement. In the four years we've been married, I can count on one hand the number of ideas I have presented to him that my husband has shot down, and looking back, he was right to have told me "no." He pushes me to be and do my very best, and he gives me space, opportunity, and emotional and financial support to pursue my goals.

(9) He's just so handsome! When I first met Daniel, I was smitten by his blond hair, clear blue eyes, and deeply tanned skin. He was gorgeous then and even more so today, nine years later!

(10) Most importantly, his love for the Lord. Daniel serves wherever he's needed. He's a leader by nature, and no where is his leadership more valued than in our home where he is the head. He fathers his children with compassion and gentleness, and he loves and cherishes his wife with true devotion. His heart is always on others.

I have been richly blessed in watching my husband grow into a true man of God. Every aspect of his character and personality is beautiful. He keeps me on the right path, encourages me when I am frustrated or upset, cracks a silly joke when I'm morose, and gets out the way when I need to be alone. God could not have sent me a more perfect man to spend my life with. I thank Him for Daniel every day.

Are you blessed with a wonderful husband? I hope you will come back next Monday (8/15) as we begin our new series on ways to love and nurture our spouses according to God's Word. I'd love your feedback and your prayers!

Blessings to you...
